Today, hunting has become the main form of recreation for millions of people across the world.

Cody Hemingway

Some of the most famous hunters in history have been American, such as Buffalo Bill Cody. Buffalo Bill was a legendary buffalo runner who killed nearly four thousand bison over the course of the 19th-century. He was also well-known for his hunting skills and was the first American ever to shoot a buffalo with a trapdoor Springfield Model 1866. He even beat a Henry repeater in an actual shooting contest. Despite these achievements, buffalo hunting is not permitted today.

Ernest Hemingway stayed once in Cody at the Chamberlin Inn while he was in Wyoming. He traveled to the town along with Jack and Pauline, his son. He went on to Cody to see the L Bar T ranch. While visiting the inn, the current owner found a signed register in its basement. The current owners of the inn also named a room in his honor, the Hemingway Suite.

St. George Littledale

Legend has it St. George Littledale hunted down a tur once in the Canadian Arctic. Littledale was frustrated by a misty mountain that covered the area and prevented him from seeing the tur. Littledale waited with his companions for Littledale each morning to return to the camp. However, they couldn't locate the tur because of the mist. They eventually found the tur on a high mountain ledge. Littledale and the guide had been waiting for them ever since the early hours of morning. Littledale had already gotten up at two a.m. to find the tur and returned home by 8.30 p.m.

St. George Littledale, despite being a famous hunter, never killed a Wolf. He was unable to kill it and had to go back to camp. This didn't stop him writing a book all about wolves. He didn't know that the ram was so dangerous, nor how hunters could survive under such circumstances. Littledale's story is also included in the book. Littledale's Arctic trip inspired the book and his love for animals.
